ACLC receives support from Adirondack 46ers for summer intern

Saranac Lake, NY – The Adirondack 46ers are supporting an Education-Outreach College Intern this summer for the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation. From June through August, this
intern will provide a series of educational presentations at day and sleep-away summer camps across the Adirondack Park. The intern will inspire passion for loon conservation and promote environmental stewardship amongst the participating campers. Under the guidance of the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation’s staff, the intern will conduct interactive presentations, storytelling, and art-based projects to engage campers in learning about loon ecology and conservation.

Adirondack 46ers support ADK with donations for trail, stewardship projects

October 24, 2022 — Lake Placid, NY — For the twenty-second consecutive year, the Adirondack 46ers have pledged support for ADK’s (Adirondack Mountain Club’s) professional trail crew by announcing a $58,500 donation to fund trail projects in the High Peaks Wilderness for the 2023 season. This is in addition to a 2020 commitment to donate $25,000 a year to ADK for the Adirondack High Peaks Summit Stewardship Program through 2023. 

The Adirondack 46ers have been a consistent supporter of trail work in the Adirondack Park for many years, including investing over $500,000 in ADK’s trails program over the last two decades. Their commitment to supporting trail projects has also scaled with increases in visitor use, with around $400,000 of that support coming over the last decade when visitation has been the highest.

1922 Centennial Event: Evolution of the Adirondack Wilderness set for Aug. 6

The year 2022 marks the centennial of three historic events that ignited public interest in exploring the Adirondack wilderness and climbing the “46” high peaks: formation of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK), publication of Robert Marshall’s High Peaks of the Adirondacks, and Grace Hudowalski’s first 46er ascent of Mount Marcy.

 

The Adirondack History Museum invites the public to celebrate these three seminal events on August 6, 2022. The day-long celebration will include lectures and presentations, a special screening of the film “The Mountains Will Wait for You,” and a retrospective on the history and future of the Adirondack Mountain Club.

 

A new exhibit featuring this significant year in Adirondack history and its effect on recreation, development, and stewardship in the High Peaks will be on display. Programs will be followed by musical selections by Peggy Lynn and Dan Duggan, as well as a reception recognizing ADK’s 100th anniversary.
