The Adirondack Balloon Festival Celebrating 47 Years

The Adirondack Balloon Festival, considered the oldest and largest hot air balloon event on the East Coast, is once again taking place in Lake George on September 19-22. The event adds to the fall color of the Adirondack landscape. Watching the balloons fill the sky is a breathtaking experience.

The schedule kicks-off on Thursday, September 19,  at Glen Falls’ Crandall Park. Live music, vendors, and children’s activities help set the tone for the weekend. Weather permitting, a flight of 20 balloons will fill the sky. » Continue Reading.

Adirondack Family Activities: Adirondack Balloon Festival

Sometimes my husband and I take turns doing something special with the children. We each need our own one-on-one time with our son and daughter. Each child also gets that special time with a parent where he/she doesn’t have to compete for attention.

Last year my son and I attended the Adirondack Balloon Festival. Since we live outside of Saranac Lake, making the 5:00 am Big Balloon Breakfast at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport hanger in Queensbury was no mean feat. Adirondack Balloon Fest: Up, Up and Away in Queensbury

Advice for anyone who attends the Adirondack Balloon Festival next year: get there early.

Early, of course, is a painful thing when balloons are involved. They take off at dawn, mostly, which means waking up at 5 a.m. if you live an hour away, as I do. It’s even more painful if you get up early and don’t get any balloons. Thanks to high winds, three launches scheduled for Saturday morning and Friday and Saturday evenings had to be canceled. » Continue Reading.
