Second World War and the Adirondacks Stories, Artifacts Sought

WW2 Uniform courtesy the Lanphear familyAdirondack Experience (ADKX), formerly the Adirondack Museum, is set to host a free open house event and community collecting day on November 11th, from 10 am to 4 pm, in support of the ADKX 2020 seasonal exhibition From Wilderness to Warfront: The Adirondacks and World War II.

This exhibition, planned to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, is devoted to the connections between Adirondack people and the global conflict. From regional industry and tourism to first-person accounts, the exhibition will explore diverse stories — those previously untold as well as those well-remembered — of regional mine workers, Mohawk code-talkers, Tuskegee airmen, and the countless local men and women who bravely served on the homefront or abroad during the world’s deadliest conflict. » Continue Reading.

August Events At ADKX Adirondack Museum

American Mountain Men courtesy ADKXAdirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX) has announced its roster of events for the month of August. Starting on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 9 and 10, the American Mountain Men are returning to the ADKX.

They will pitch tents, build fires, cook rustic meals, demonstrate their firearm, bow shooting, tomahawk and knife throwing skills, and many more traditional wilderness trades during their annual weekend encampment. » Continue Reading.

ADKX Museum Opening Boathouse of Historic Watercraft

Curious Creatures: Remarkable Taxidermy from Private Collections

taxidermy exhibit Adirondack Experience, the Museum on Blue Mountain Lake is set to exhibit approximately 100 pieces of taxidermy on loan from private Adirondack collections and camps as well as mounts, photographs, and manuscript materials from its own collection.

This special temporary exhibit opening May 24, 2019 for one season only, will include the work of famed English taxidermist Walter Potter (1835-1918). The Harold K. Hochschild Award is dedicated to the memory of the museum’s founder, whose passion for the Adirondacks, its people and environment inspired the creation of the institution. Summer Museum Diversity Fellowship at ADKX

Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX), in partnership with the human resources consulting group, Adirondack Diversity Solutions, will host a 10-week summer diversity fellowship program beginning June 2, 2019.

This program is specially designed for college students from communities that have been historically underrepresented in arts organizations because of educational and economic disadvantage and ethnic background. Thanks to funding from the New York State Council on the Arts, these fellowships will offer free housing, a stipend of $6,000, along with reimbursed transportation expenses to and from the ADKX, up to $500 per fellow. » Continue Reading.
