Blue Mountain Lake, NY – The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (ALCA) has announced its 2023 lineup for its Weekend Series of concerts, featuring a variety of musical genres, including classical, funk rock, musical theatre, and Americana folk. Performers will range from the world-renowned Euclid string quartet, to the award-winning Buffalo band Organ Fairchild, to the return of Arts Center favorites like the Bob Stump band. ALCA Awarded $295,000 for ADK Quad-County SCR Arts Grant Program
BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE, NY—The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (ALCA) is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $295,000 from the New York State Council on
the Arts (NYSCA) for ALCA’s Adirondack (ADK) Quad-County Region Statewide Community Regrants (SCR) Program for fiscal year 2023. The award, which resulted from an application by ALCA staff members in NYSCA’s “Support for Partnerships” category, represents a greater-than-125% increase in the arts center’s current SCR funding of $130,000. In providing the grant, NYSCA approved 100% of ALCA’s request for the additional $165,000.
Tupper Arts Center: Winter speaker series on music, visual arts set for January 6 & 28
TUPPER LAKE: Two distinguished guest speakers, Dr. Harold Rosenbaum and Dr. William Tortolano, will be giving talks on January 6 and 28 that feature the history of classical music and the group of Canadian artists known as the Group of Seven in a Winter Speaker Series co-hosted by Tupper Arts and the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts. Both talks will be held at the Tupper Arts Center, 106 Park Street. These talks are free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the programming by both arts centers.
On Friday, Jan. 6 at 7 p.m., Dr. Harold Rosenbaum, founder of The New York Virtuoso Singers and part-year resident of Tupper Lake, will present a talk he is calling “A Concise History of Classical Music,” an hour and a half lecture and demonstration at the piano on the development of classical music from the medieval period to the present. This talk will be followed by a Q & A session.
“Northern Aesthetic” Exhibit of Watercolor Works by Diane Swanson at ALCA opens today
Artist Diane Swanson is exhibiting a selection of sixteen watercolor paintings at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts August 3 through September 4. A reception and artists’ talk is scheduled for Saturday, August 20, from 2 to 4 p.m.
The natural beauty of the Adirondack region is an immersive source of inspiration for the artist, deeply influencing her painting aesthetics.
“The paintings I’ve created and selected for my summer exhibit at ALCA strive to portray the essence and emotive quality of our waters, mountains, woods, meadows and skies,” Swanson said. “The colors, textures and atmosphere unique to this area contribute to the comprehensive feeling of being a part of this extraordinary landscape.”
Adirondack Lakes Arts Center presents virtual piano concert
The next livestream in Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts’ “ALCA-Seltzer Series: Relief from the Headaches of Social Distancing” features concert pianist Nicole Wang, who has been social distancing in Blue Mountain Lake since March, is providing Arts Center audiences with a concert of pieces by Chopin, Mozart, Debussy, and other composers, filmed at the Arts Center and played on the center’s Steinway.
Forever Snocade at Indian Lake Theater
