The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will once again welcome local instructor, historian, and artisan Hallie Bond to teach participants how to make a fresh balsam wreath and a 4-foot to 6-foot length of garland on Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 1 to 4 pm.

The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will present 1984 by George Orwell, adapted for the stage by Michael Gene Sullivan. Pendragon Theatre will be presenting this stage adaptation at the Arts Center on Saturday, October 14 at 7:30 pm.
The adaptation, by Michael Gene Sullivan, based on the iconic novel by George Orwell, tells the story of Winston Smith, a cog in the giant machine state of Oceania. Physically and mentally under the omnipresent eye of Big Brother, Winston has been caught struggling for scraps of love and freedom in a world awash with distrust and violence. With the brutal “help” of four Party Members, Winston is forced to confess his Thoughtcrimes before an unseen inquisitor, and the audience – which acts as a silent witness to his torture. This adaptation is not the version currently on Broadway which has been gathering much attention due to torture scenes causing unpleasant physical reactions from audiences. » Continue Reading.
The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts will continue its Saturday Series with the return of the Sultans of String on August 5th at 7:30 pm at the Arts Center.

The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts has announced the line-up for its 2017 Adirondack Lakes Summer Theatre Festival as part of the Arts Center’s 50th Anniversary season.
This year the touring festival will feature the play A Walk in the Woods; free outdoor performances of its Shakespeare in the Parks production, The Merry Wives of Windsor; the Great Arts Cabaret; and the opera The Pirates of Penzance. There are only two chances left to see the Gem*Radio Theatre Company’s latest production of The Lone Ranger Rides Again – this weekend at the Adirondack Lake Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake and at the Indian Lake Theatre. According to Director Hannah Jay the newly formed production company branched off from GemBoy Productions last year and their first radio play was a success.
“We performed It’s A Wonderful Life last year for the first time,” says Jay. “We are a small group and so far we are focusing on one production a year. There is something about a classic that appeals to all ages.”
The cast of nine includes two Foley artists that worked to perfect the sounds that replicate a radio production. The full production consists of four full-length episodes including the first and last of the original radio broadcasts. » Continue Reading.
Renowned Bass-Baritone George Cordes has performed with numerous operatic companies from the Metropolitan Opera and New York City Opera to Opera Boston and Houston Grand Opera to name (drop) a few.
Around the Adirondacks, Cordes brought the Demon Barber of Fleet Street to life in Pendragon Theatre’s performance of “Sweeney Todd” as well as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha. His other regional performances through High Peaks Opera, the Northern Lights Choir and the Lake Placid Sinfonietta helped broaden the regions exposure to opera. The other part is the artists, musicians and performers that make the Adirondacks their home while sharing their creativity with the rest of us. The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake has announced a new campaign on Adirondack Gives, the crowdfunding site for Adirondack region nonprofits, to help fund the purchase of new tires for the organization’s van.
Traveling the 2,000 square miles of the Adirondacks takes a toll on the Center’s equipment. For the 2014 ADK Summer Playhouse season, the organization plans to travel five productions to 17 towns for a total of 31 performances. “The van is crucial piece of equipment, it helps fulfill our mission of bringing our programs to underserved communities in the Adirondacks,” Executive Director Alex Harris said in a statement announcing the fundraising drive.

For the fourth season, the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts is bringing Shakespeare to the masses in a live, outdoor theatre setting. With other performances of Shrek the Musical, Cabaret and Songs for A New World, their ADK Summer Playhouse is in full swing.
The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts Artistic Associate Danielle Melendez says, “We are doing MacBeth this year with a twist. This year we shorted the play to an hour and 15 minutes, to its purest form and only using six actors. We have the actors playing Lady Macbeth and Macbeth, but the actors portraying the three witches also play all the supporting roles. The Adirondack Summer Playhouse puts a unique twist on the musical “Cabaret” in three performances this weekend on Gore Mountain. The production, which runs July 11-13, takes place in a modern “Spiegeltent,” an Austrian mirrored circus tent, offering classic German beer and goodies such as knödel, bratwurst, sauerkraut, sausages and pretzels.
“Cabaret” is set in Berlin in 1931, as the Nazis are rising to power. It focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Overseeing the action is the master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. “Cabaret,” which made its Broadway debut in 1966, won eight Tony Awards; a Broadway revival in 1998 won four Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards. The show was adapted into a film in 1972 starring Liza Minelli. » Continue Reading.
There are many ways to celebrate spring in the Adirondacks. After boiling the last of our backyard maple sap my family looks for ways to relax and appreciate the change of seasons. One way is to catch a local art exhibit at one of the many arts organizations around the Adirondacks. Of course, there is still snow on the trails and even Gore and Whiteface will be open for the weekend to get that spring ski rush.

Tomorrow, Saturday, February 25th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake will hold it’s winter fundraiser at the historic Minnowbrook Great Camp. The event will feature a dinner buffet and cocktails, a silent auction, and musical entertainment while supporting the center’s mission to provide arts programming for the entire Adirondack region.
Overnight accommodations are available on Saturday night in the rustic elegance of Minnowbrook Lodge, which include a continental breakfast on Sunday.
