Adirondack Skiing Has Begun: What’s Open

Snowmaking on Bear Mountain Summit courtesy Gore MountainThere is 4-8 inches of snow across most of the Adirondacks, with deeper snows – about 6-10 inches – across the Northern Adirondacks, and at higher elevations in the High Peaks, and nordic, downhill and some backcountry skiing has begun around the region.

Whiteface Mountain, in Wilmington, and Gore Mountain, in North Creek opened for the 2019-’20 season on Friday. They will remain open through the weekend, but may close during the week until Friday after Thanksgiving. Snowmaking Begins at Gore, Whiteface; Opening Date Set

ORDA Adds Gondola to Belleayre Ski Resort

Belleayre golndolaBelleayre Mountain’s Ski Resort has announced the opening of the new Catskill Thunder high-speed gondola.

The 60-cabin gondolas are carried from the lower mountain’s Discovery Lodge to the summit in seven minutes. The new Catskill Thunder Gondola is able to transport up to eight guests per cabin, approximately 2,000 people per hour, at a maximum speed of 1,000 feet per minute, according to an announcement made by the Olympic Region Development Authority (ORDA), which manages Belleayre in addition to the Gore and Whiteface mountain ski reorts in the Adirondacks. » Continue Reading.
