The Journey to Eagle Mountain

sled dogsI’ve always been happy to live in the Adirondacks and enjoy the four seasons that come with it. This year I learned to really love the month of November. Weird, right?

November is tan, gray, and bleak. ‘Brace yourself’ she says. ‘Winter is coming and I’m just the beginning.’

For my family, we are content when the temperatures dip and the clouds suggest snow. November is the introduction for the cooler months to come. My husband and I raise Alaskan Malamutes; sturdy and stubborn sled dogs, with a natural desire to pull, complete with thick undercoats. As their name suggests, they hail from Alaska and thrive in the cold.

ANCA and Bike Adirondacks Announce Bike the Barns Route and Farm Stops

KEESEVILLE, N.Y. — The Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) and Bike Adirondacks have announced the route and farm stops for this year’s Bike the Barns — a half-day bicycle tour that engages participants with North Country farms and the region’s local food movement. The 25-mile road cycling route will take riders to farms and other agricultural points of interest in the Ausable and Champlain Valleys of northern New York State.
Set during the height of the region’s fall foliage season on Saturday, October 7, 2023, the morning ride will begin at Ausable Brewing Company in Keeseville, continue to the Babbie Rural Farm and Learning Museum and Northern Orchard in Peru and cross over the scenic Ausable Chasm to stops at Mace Chasm Farm and North Country Creamery in Keeseville. The ride will end back at the brewery with a celebration of live music, local food and drink and more.

ADK Unite to raise funds for ADK food pantries starting May 1

Saranac Lake, NY – ADK Unite, an annual running, walking and bicycling event that raises funds for community food pantries, is back for 2023 with some fun new ways for people of all ages to participate. Since 2020, the virtual event has generated over $20,000 for food banks throughout the Adirondacks.  Registration is now open at The event, which was started in 2020 by Bike Adirondacks, LAKEfm and Adirondack 105, is designed to help people get active while generating much needed operating funds for local food pantries. Participants will run, walk, bike or hike and track their miles digitally through the event website to compete for prizes with every single dollar generated going directly to the cause.

BikeADK: New trails in Elizabethtown, rides/events planned for August-October
