Cycle Adirondacks has added to its 2018 tour schedule The Weekender at The Paul Smith’s College, a new family-friendly bicycling event scheduled for June 29-July 1.
The new event will be hosted at the lakeside campus of Paul Smith’s College and complements Cycle Adirondacks nearly sold out annual weeklong tour set for August 18-24. This year’s Bike the Barns event took place at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall on Sunday, October 1st. Organizers say registrations for Bike the Barns doubled since the inaugural event last year. This fall, over 160 people signed up to ride.

The Champlain Canalway Trail Working Group has announced the 6th Annual Champlain Canalway Trail Bicycle Ride will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017.
The ride will begin at Hudson Crossing Park in Schuylerville, NY, and continue along the Canalway Trail and Feeder Canal Trail to Glens Falls, NY, before returning to the starting point. The day-long tour offers four options: a 30-mile ride and a 50-mile ride, with or without a canal cruise aboard Mohawk Maiden Cruises. This recreational tour will include multiple stops at destinations of cultural and historical significance, such as an old mule barn and the five combination locks on the Feeder Canal. » Continue Reading.

More than 1.5 miles of bike trails, including a new loop opportunity, have been added to the Beaver Brook Trail Network in the Adirondacks. The trails are part of the Wilmington Bike Trail Network located on Forest Preserve lands in the Wilmington Wild Forest in the town of Wilmington, Essex County.
The new trails were built under contract or agreement with and supervision of DEC. The new 1.0-mile Ante Up Trail was constructed by Adirondack Mountain Club Professional Crew (ADK Pro Crew) and Barkeater Trail Alliance (BETA) volunteers. The new 0.25-mile Beaver Brook View Trail and a new 0.3 mile section of the Lost Farm Trail were both constructed by BETA volunteers. DEC also contracted with the ADK Pro Crew to construct a bridge over Beaver Brook that completes the loop on the Lost Farm Trail. This summer an Excelsior Conservation Corps work crew will improve the Beaver Brook View Trail to meet accessible trail standards to provide access for people with mobility disabilities. » Continue Reading.
The 6th Annual Ride for the River planned for Sunday, July 16 will feature a new format that allows guests to experience the conservation work of the Ausable River Association (AsRA). The family-friendly event is a fully supported road cycling tour featuring three distance options, all showcasing the Ausable River watershed in the heart of the Adirondacks.
Registration is open online.
Ride for the River was created by AsRA in 2012 to celebrate the resilience of local communities following the devastating flooding caused by Tropical Storm Irene. In partnership with Cycle Adirondacks, the 2017 ride will feature new interactive route stops allowing cyclists to learn about the impacts of road salt, invasive species and undersized culverts on Ausable streams and habitat. » Continue Reading.
The Lake Placid Land Conservancy (LPLC) plans to create a community preserve in the Town of Wilmington that will include two miles of recreational trails open to the public.
The project will create a connector trail between the hamlet of Wilmington and the existing public land and trails on the Beaver Brook Tract of the Wilmington Wild Forest located on Hardy Road.
LPLC anticipates closing on the properties to create the preserve by the end of March, 2017. » Continue Reading.
