ADK launches free naturalist programs at Cascade Welcome Center, Heart Lake

Starting July 1, ADK will resume its popular naturalist-led walks and programs in the Lake Placid area. This includes all-new interpretive walks at Cascade Welcome Center, which will be offered every Saturday at 1pm until mid-August. Walks will meet inside the Center and take approximately one hour. All are free, open to the public, and do not require advanced registration**.

Additionally, ADK will resume its popular summer naturalist series at the Heart Lake Program Center. Guests and visitors are welcome to explore the natural world of the Adirondacks through hands-on activities by attending one or all of the following programs:

ADK to host BioBlitz event on June 24

Lake Placid, NY — ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) is excited to announce that it will be hosting a free BioBlitz event on June 24 at Cascade Welcome Center. Surrounded by 200 acres of forest and wetland, Cascade Welcome Center is home to a variety of ecosystems that have yet to be explored by naturalists. ADK is looking for volunteers of all ages and skill levels to help identify and document the property’s flora and fauna as a part of the event.

Cascade Welcome Center launches outdoor gear consignment program

Lake Placid, NY — ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) is excited to announce a new outdoor gear consignment program at Cascade Welcome Center that will help reduce barriers to accessing the outdoors. For a commission, consignment programs facilitate the sale of used gear, freeing up space for sellers and allowing purchasers to find quality outdoor equipment at a discounted price. With this program in place, Cascade Welcome Center is situated to not only help visitors plan for a safe and responsible outdoor adventure, but also to equip them for it.

Cascade Welcome Center now open for inaugural winter season 

 

November 14, 2022 — Lake Placid, NY — The Adirondack Mountain Club’s Cascade Welcome Center is now open for the winter season. A hub for visitor information and community-based recreation, the Center offers 12 miles of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing throughout the winter months.

Grooming will begin as soon as there is enough snow on the ground. Once that happens, recreators will be able to enjoy trails that wind through dense woodland, along open wetlands, and past incredible views of surrounding high peaks. Many of these trails are rated as easy, making this a great area for first-time skiers, families, and those looking for a more relaxing trip.

Cascade Welcome Center has incredible potential as a community resource for both the surrounding towns and ADK supporters. In fact, its reputation under its previous ownership was just that—it was a family-friendly ski center that welcomed novice and experienced skiers, introduced kids to winter sports, and provided locals and visitors with space to enjoy the many benefits that come with outdoor recreation. ADK receives $303,960 Northern Border Regional Commission grant for Cascade Welcome Center renovations

Lake Placid, NY — ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club) has been awarded a $303,960 Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) State Economic & Infrastructure Development (SEID) grant for renovations at Cascade Welcome Center. The grant was announced by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik on Wednesday as part of a $4.1 million package awarded to projects in NY-21.

The funding will be used to make Cascade Welcome Center available to the public for skiing and other outdoor activities, as well as to develop the Center into a fully accessible, year-round, world-class outdoor education and visitor information center. This will help visitors and residents connect with the Adirondack Park’s numerous outdoor opportunities as they travel to and from the region.

Uihlein Foundation supports Cascade Welcome Center projects

The Henry Uihlien II and Mildred A. Uihlein Foundation Trust has awarded the Adirondack Mountain Club a $30,000 grant for facility improvements at Cascade Welcome Center. The grant will fund upgrades to the building’s infrastructure and visitor information area, including new windows, an electronic interpretive display, and improved public restrooms. A portion will also be used to purchase trail maintenance equipment needed for the upcoming winter ski season.

Acquired by ADK in April, Cascade Welcome Center is a visitor and education center that addresses high use in the High Peaks region, connects kids and families to nature, and improves access to the outdoors for all. Currently it offers visitor information, public restrooms, and free guided nature walks throughout its 200-acre property. In the winter season, it will offer 12 miles of groomed cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, including rentals and retail.

Lake Placid, NY – Starting July 2, ADK will resume its popular naturalist-led walks and programs in the Lake Placid area. This includes all-new, one-hour interpretive walks at the Cascade Welcome Center, which will be offered every Saturday at 1 pm until mid-August.

Walk participants will meet inside the Cascade Welcome Center. All walks and programs are free, open to the public, and do not require advanced registration.**

Additionally, ADK will resume its popular summer naturalist series at the Heart Lake Program Center.

Naturalist Guided Walks  

Join an ADK Naturalist and learn about the natural history of the Adirondacks. Interpretive walks run at 10 am daily all summer long through mid-August. Meeting place is outside the Adirondak Loj.
