Are you ready to roll up your sleeves to help care for local trails?
The Adirondack chapter of The Nature Conservancy is doing some spring cleaning and is looking for volunteers to help us at the Boquet River Nature Preserve on Saturday, May 7, 10AM-2PM.
Inspired by and with the help of the Boon Family of Fourth Lake, the Fulton Chain of Lakes Association is teaming up the Towns of Webb & Inlet, the Adirondack Watershed Institute and the 6th-7th Lake Improvement Association to start an annual volunteer clean-up event to maintain the beautiful lakes and watershed of the Fulton Chain of Lakes.
Morgan Duke Conservation Society today announced a tree planting and litter clean-up event at the Hudson River Recreation Area on River Road in Lake Luzerne, beginning at noon on May 15. The community is invited to participate in this free event. A check-in table will be located at the big parking lot between the Lake Luzerne-Warrensburg line, by the kiosk. Hand sanitizer, bags, snacks, and water will be provided. Participants are required to wear a face mask and maintain social distancing.
Participants and visitors can walk the campsites and trails, including the Bear Slide trail, and other areas to help pick up garbage. Orange garbage bags and gloves will be provided. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will lead a tree planting program at approved locations in the Hudson River Recreation Area. A limited number of shovels and gloves will be available – the community is encouraged to bring their own gloves and shovels. DEC is providing the trees, which will be coming from the Colonel William F. Fox Memorial Saratoga Tree Nursery.

Northern New York is often recognized as a great place to live, work, and raise a family. We’re fortunate enough to call the Adirondack Park, Lake Champlain, the St. Lawrence Seaway, and the farms and forests of the northern tier home. World-class downhill and cross-country skiing, golf courses, camping, boating, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hunting, and rock climbing; trails for hiking, jogging, bicycling, and horseback riding; tennis courts, and opportunities for outdoor and wildlife photography all contribute to the extremely appealing quality of life that many of us have come to take for granted.
Spring has sprung and it’s not just crocuses that are springing up from under the snow! The amount of trash that has surfaced seems worse than ever this year as masks litter every street.
It’s time for us to come together again to make our town the shining example it is, a community that works together for the common good.
Please consider volunteering on Saturday May 1st. (rain date 5/8) We should always clean up our own neighborhood, but if you are a business owner or have a group willing to work to clean up a particular area let us know at lpvillagecleanup@gmail.com or on our Facebook page Lake Placid Annual Clean Up Day.
We will be holding this event virtually and socially distanced with people sharing their haul on social media. Registration and bag pick up is at 9 am at the Lake Placid Beach house on Parkside Drive in Lake Placid. We will have “special” garbage bags, instructions, latex gloves and community service forms for students. Please follow all social distancing and mask wearing protocols.
Please let us know if you plan to participate. To make the day more fun there will be a treasure hunt for golden eggs and prizes for the most discarded masks collected!
