Winter wonderland: activities and competition in Long Lake

Long Lake has announced their Winter Wonderland Bingo, which will feature activities and outdoor recreation in the form of a contest that will last until Feb. 28.

They will be posting specially designed bingo cards on social media, and making printed cards available at the Long Lake Town Office and at local businesses starting Feb. 12.

Participation is free, and those who partake are encouraged to complete as many activities as they can, with prizes available depending on how many activities you can complete.

Featured tasks include indoor and outdoor activities ranging from reading Adirondack books, visiting area retail stores trying out cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and skating and more.

Those who complete one row of bingo will receive a gift card, five random activities will win a sticker, and the completion of all 25 tasks will be able to choose from a selection of prizes, and be entered to win a gift basket featuring items from Long Lake and Raquette Lake merchants.

In order to play, cross off activities as completed and photograph the card showing the completed tasks. Submit digital photos via email or to the uploader for prizes. Submit photo proof of purchase for any meals or shopping, and any activities to longlakeevents@gmail.com  or upload them directly to https://upload.crowdriff.com/lakesbingo.

Call to Artists – NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery Virtual Juried Show

The NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery, located in the heart of Saranac Lake, will be hosting an upcoming juried art show, and is currently seeking artists to submit content under the theme of “The Healing Wilderness,” inspired by the healing power of the Adirondacks.

The village of Saranac Lake is the birthplace of the fresh air cure for tuberculosis, and since the turn of the 20th century the village has been revered for its healing powers.

Selected works will be placed on display in digital form at the NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery during Saranac Lake’s “Winter Carnival”, attended by thousands of people every year. Selected works will also be featured on their website as well, and shared within NorthWind’s extensive social media audience.

“Why I Hunt” and “Why I Trap” Photo & Essay Contest

The NYS DEC is calling for hunters and trappers to submit photos and essays about what motivates them to trek out into the wilderness and practice what they love. Whether it be a family tradition, a connection to nature, or just to feed your family, the DEC is asking for the people of New York to share their stories so that they may encourage others to get outside and do the same. The winners of the contest will appear in the 2021-2022 New York Hunting and Trapping Regulations Guide, which has over half a million readers.

Essays should be non-fiction, original material told from a first-person perspective, of 50 to 500 words in length. The contest has a limit of one entry per person with a maximum of two photos per entry. Photos must be taken in New York State.

Join the Invasive Species Mapping Challenge

NY iMapinvasvies is now running their fith annual Invasive Species Mapping Challenge, available to anyone.

The challenge consists of tracking invasive plants and animals across New York State in order to help prevent the spread of these species.

This year’s challenge will focus on the Jumping Worm, the Tree of Heaven, the Water Chestnut, and the European Frogbit. Through July 15, try and find any or all of the four species, report them to the iMap app (available for free) and compete with other seekers on their leaderboards, earning the title of champion in the process. ANCA Rad Dad Gift Package: A Father’s Day Competition

This Father’s Day, ANCA is inviting North Country Businesses to collaborate in creating Father’s Day Gift Packages in a friendly contest with one another in an effort to encourage customers to #ClickLocal. All businesses from ANCA’s 14-county North Country region are encouraged to enter. The Contest Submissions will highlight gift packages created by two or more businesses which use photos, slogans, and other digital tools that will help facilitate social media and online marketing.
