Discussion time: Population

adirondacks map

One of our readers, Lou Curth, raised this point recently in the comments:

NYT 12/9/22, report on Cop15 in Montreal,by Catrin Einhorn & Lauren Leatherby:

*** “THE HUMAN POPULATION JUST SURPASSED 8 BILLION.
*** PER CAPITA CONSUMPTION IS SOARING…”
*** ANIMALS ARE RUNNING OUT OF PLACES TO LIVE.

Wildlife is disappearing around the world, in the oceans and on land. The main cause on land is perhaps the most straightforward: Humans are taking over too much of the planet, erasing what was there before.

I’d like to hear your thoughts on this issue, and what it means for the Adirondacks. In a world of 8 billion people, what kind of population numbers could the Adirondacks sustain?
