Traditional Father’s Day weekend events planned for Old Forge

Members of the Central Adirondack Association (CAA) are pleased to report that they will be hosting their traditional Father’s Day Weekend festivities in-person this weekend beginning with an Antique & Classic Car Rally that will kick off at 7 p.m. on the evening of Friday, June 17 at the North Country Market in Thendara, NY, and then cruise up and down Main Street. Those who wish to participate in the car rally are asked to line up in the North Country Market parking lot starting at 6:30 p.m.

The following day, Saturday, June 18, the 25th Annual Father’s Day Weekend Classic & Antique Auto Show will take place at the George T. Hiltebrant Recreation Center/Pavilion.  No pre-registration is necessary this year, instead registration will begin at 9 a.m. Vehicles are $20 per car, and spectators are admitted for free. Guests are encouraged to come spend the day viewing classic and antique cars of all makes and models while having a chance to win door prizes, purchasing food and beverages provided by North Country Market, and enjoying lively music.

Happy — or Hoppy — Father’s Day

frog contestHappy Father’s Day to all the dads, grandpas, and father-figures out there! In honor of the holiday, I did a search for “fathers” in the Almanack archive and was impressed to see how many times the Father’s Day Frog Jumping Contest in Old Forge popped up (pictured here, a photo also found in the archive). While it was canceled last year due to the pandemic, this mainstay event is back!

Sun June 20 Annual Father’s Day Frog Jumping Contest – On the lakefront at Noon. Children can bring their champion frog to win prizes and fathers should wear their most outrageous tie! Largest, smallest, and longest jumper. Great family fun! Don’t worry, all frogs are released unharmed. Sponsored by the Central Adirondack Association. Phone 315-369-6983 for additional information.

ANCA Rad Dad Gift Package: A Father’s Day Competition

This Father’s Day, ANCA is inviting North Country Businesses to collaborate in creating Father’s Day Gift Packages in a friendly contest with one another in an effort to encourage customers to #ClickLocal. All businesses from ANCA’s 14-county North Country region are encouraged to enter. The Contest Submissions will highlight gift packages created by two or more businesses which use photos, slogans, and other digital tools that will help facilitate social media and online marketing.

Forty-Six Years of Frog Jumping Father’s Days

Calaveras County has nothing on Herkimer when it comes to frog jumping contests. For the past forty-six years, fathers and children have been catching and releasing frogs in Old Forge to find the one that will break all the records.

According to the Town of Webb Publicity Director Mike Farmer, the Old Forge Frog Jumping Contest has always been a well-monitored event with plenty of water for the frogs and an immediate release into the nearby Old Forge Pond. » Continue Reading.

Father’s Day Fishing Derbies

Adirondack Fishing DerbyThere are plenty of ways to celebrate the father in our lives. Once my children were old enough to make their own decisions they decided not to take the traditional route of gifting a necktie. They give their father what he wants most, time with his children.

This year Father’s Day also falls on my husband’s birthday so he’s expecting his kids to pull out all the stops. I’m not sure they can make everything on his wish list come true, but they are doing their best. » Continue Reading.

Celebrating Father’s Day In The Adirondacks

d8318bd2-ce67-275d-7a457cecb603a4e6Celebrating Father’s Day is easy in the Adirondacks.  My children  plan on honoring their father with a day highlighting his  favorite things. With numerous mountains to climb and streams to fish, the ability to have fun is around every corner.

It’s nice that my children don’t have to opt for the stereotypical new tie or coffee mug to show their appreciate to the man who gave them life. That doesn’t mean my husband won’t get another hand-painted mug and a few crazy ties. Whatever my husband is gifted I know he will appreciate , but he would rather be outside and active.
