Adirondack Harvest Open Farm Week Planned for September

Lewis, NY – This year, rather than a large one-day event, the Adirondack Harvest Festival will instead celebrate a week filled with events at farms, businesses, and community organizations around the Adirondack Region. Mark your calendars from Monday, September 13 through Sunday, September 19, 2021! The “Free Range” Open Farm Week is designed to give folks a chance to see for themselves how agriculture, wilderness, and community can work together toward a sustainable local food system in the Adirondacks.

The Open Farm Week includes over 75 events ranging from free family-friendly farm visits early in the day to fine dining and spirit tastings in the evening. Just a few examples include:

Oktupperfest Offers Local Brew, Pumpkin Tossing

Screen Shot 2015-09-22 at 3.07.27 PMOktupperfest originated at Big Tupper Ski Resort in the 1970s, and returned in 2011 after a 10-year hiatus. According to Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce Events Administrator Adam Baldwin, this annual event is family-friendly and fun for all ages.

Baldwin says, “Oktupperfest is a family oriented event filled with live music for everyone. There are tons of things to do. The chairlift is a one-way ride, but it isn’t a huge mountain so people can walk back down from the top. We gear the event toward families, not just kids. We have German food, vendors and kids games as well as adult activities such as the pumpkin slingshot.” » Continue Reading.

A Kids Farm Festival In Peru

The success of the recent Farm2Fork Festival, farm tours and farmers’ markets as well as farm to school initiatives indicate that people are interested in what happens to their food. One place to visit that is continuing that farm to table education is the Babbie Rural and Farm Learning Museum in Peru.
