Adirondack Foundation delivers nearly $1.2 million in COVID-19 grants, opens new grant period

The Adirondack Foundation, alongside several funding partners has awarded close to $1.2 million over the course of 175 grants to nonprofits, schools, and community-based organizations towards COVID-19 response. This rapid-fire community response is due to a coalition of corporate, philanthropic, and nonprofit organizations and partnerships on the front lines. Several of these organizations serve those of us who were greatly affected during times of crises.

With over $1.3 million raised, grants are being gifted all throughout the region, alleviating the social and economic hardships of tens of thousands of Adirondack citizens. These grants consist of both emergency-response grants and long-term relief. The grants awarded fall into the categories listed below. #ClickLocal: Support local, shop online at the same time

As small, local businesses continue to look for new ways to reach customers, more  e-commerce opportunities are coming to fruition. Keep engaged in your community with the #ClickLocal effort and check out the following endeavors, provided by Adirondack North Country Association:

Adirondack Buyer Days: ANCA is sharing a catalog of handmade gifts from its annual Buyer Days show (which didn’t take place this year due to COVID-19). The catalogue features artisans from around the region (such as Adirondack Peach, shown here), making a range of products such as jewelry, cards, soap, candles and chocolate. Browse the online catalogue here and support regional artists.

The Hub Online Market: The Hub on the Hill’s new online ordering system offers local food and products with the added convenience of home delivery, within 100 miles of its location in Essex. (Place orders by Monday and then choose a delivery day.) The project was made in collaboration with ANCA and received support from the Adirondack Foundation’s Generous Acts fund, and Well Fed Essex. If you are a food producer located in the Champlain Valley/Adirondacks, you are welcome to apply.

Shop Where I Live St. Lawrence County: Check out the St. Lawrence Chamber of Commerce’s new online platform which allows you to purchase directly from St. Lawrence County businesses.

ANCA, Clarkson offer e-commerce assistance to small businesses

If you are a small business owner looking for help troubleshooting your current e-commerce set up, in need of a website, or if you just need advice and support at a free or reduced cost, then are eligible to apply for assistance provided by Adirondack North Country Association (ANCA) and Clarkson University in partnership with the Center for Businesses in Transition. The first round of applications are due Wednesday, April 15 at 5 p.m. (futures rounds TBD).

Assistance given is limited and based on need.

COVID Update: Loans & Resources for Small Businesses

The Village of Saranac Lake Community Development Department and the Small Business Administration have released an update on loans and resources available for small businesses to help them persevere through this current public health crises.

Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) is a program intended to help cover working capital, pay fixed debts, payroll, accounts payable, other bills that can’t be paid because of the disaster.

EIDL Loan Advance are grants which provide emergency advances of up to $10,000 for small businesses and private non-profits negatively impacted by COVID-19 within 3 days of applying for an SBA EIDL, an economic injury disaster loan. The advance does not need to be repaid.

Free emergency food aid for those in need

EFPOrgs launch program to deliver farm-fresh food packages

AdkAction has partnered up with the Hub on the Hill in Essex in order to launch an Emergency Food Packages Project (EFP) to assist local families who may be struggling due to the coronavirus. Every EFP contains a week’s worth of fresh, pre-prepared meals delivered directly to families. The organizations’ goal is to provide 100 boxes of food each week over the next 10 weeks. A total of 1,000 packages, supplying 15,000 meals – all for free.

Each EFP contains eggs, bread, apples, healthy snacks, yogurt, greens, granola, soup, and two large trays of frozen entrees. The food distributed is purchased from local farms, and prepared and delivered by local labor provided by Hub on the Hill. Families and individuals in need are being screened by partner agencies and local organizations with a history of supporting those who need food.

EFP’s have a $55 production fee but are provided free to families in need. A $7,000 grant provided by the Adirondack Foundation’s Special and Urgent Needs Fund launched the project. AdkAction has also created a online fundraising page to help reach the overall goal. Over $30,000 was raised in the first 24 hours, enough to support the first 545 EFP’s, with a total of $55,000 needed to support the creation and delivery of 1,000 EFPs.
