Genre-bending violin-cello duo ARKAI to play 2 shows this weekend

What: ARKAI Channels Global Diversity Through Genre-Bending Music: 2 Exciting Shows

Description: ARKAI is an award-winning electroacoustic violin-cello duo that has inspired audiences around the world through its genre-defying string music. Graduates of The Juilliard School, their past engagements have included performances at The MET, Carnegie Hall, Public Theater, World Trade Center, Bryant Park, Rockwood Music Hall, City Winery, US Air Force Academy, 54 Below, Lincoln Center, Musikfest, and Chateau Marmont. Their electronic debut composition, “Letters from COVID”, was featured at TED@PMI for a global audience of over 30,000 people from 182 countries. Recent highlights include opening for Oscar and Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste at NYC’s Javits Center. 

When/where: ARKAI will perform two concerts with a different program at each location:

  • Saturday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m., Lake Flower Landing, 421 Lake Flower Ave, Saranac Lake, NY, 12983 
  • Sunday, January 28 at 3:00 pm, Saranac Fire Hall (volunteer fire dept), 3277 Route 3, Saranac, NY 12981

Creative Adirondacks, JBL! presents 8th Annual Blues at Timbuctoo

The eighth annual “Blues at Timbuctoo” concert takes place on Sunday, September 17, 2023, from noon to 5 p.m. at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site in Lake Placid. The event is sponsored by John Brown Lives!, and is free and open to the public, with preregistration recommended. This year’s lineup includes: Jerry Dugger and The Harlem Blues Project, Jake Blount, Dave Keyes, Grant Dermody and Frank Fotusky, and the father-daughter trio, Adirondack Blues Reunion.

Hard-hitting French film “Happening” to be shown at Lake Flower Landing on Aug. 2

SARANAC LAKE, NY—The recently formed Abortion Access Committee of Adirondack Voters for Change is proud to present the new feature film “Happening” at Lake Flower Landing, 421 Lake Flower Avenue, in Saranac Lake on Tuesday, August 2, at 7 PM.

 

A French film that opened in the United States this past spring, “Happening” earned the Golden Lion award for best picture at the prestigious Venice Film Festival last year. It is based on a true story and takes place in the early 1960s when both abortion and contraception were illegal in France and anyone who got an abortion or helped anyone obtain an abortion faced imprisonment.
