137 Acres Protected at Huletts Landing on Lake George
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) has announced the recent protection of two properties at Huletts Landing, in Dresden, NY, a total of 137 acres. The properties both contain significant lengths of tributaries that flow into Lake George, and other water-protecting features.
The two properties consist of a 112-acre forested parcel off of County Road 6, and the other a 25-acre upland parcel adjacent to Elephant Mountain. Combined, the properties include more than 7,800 feet of stream corridors that lead to Lake George. The 112-acre parcel also contains two acres of wetlands and beaver ponds, which are the headwaters of one of these now protected tributaries. » Continue Reading.

LGLC Honors Five at President’s Reception
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) honored five major partners and supporters during its 7th annual President’s Reception, held Friday, July 26 at the Bolton Historical Museum.

The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) is set to hold its public Annual Meeting and Block Party at Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center in Bolton Landing on Saturday, August 17, from 11 am to 2 pm.

LGLC Holds 7th Annual Lake George Hike-A-Thon
The Lake George Land Conservancy’s (LGLC) annual event, the Lake George Hike-A-Thon, took place on July 5, 2019, with nearly 550 hikers, paddlers, and volunteers taking part. Organizers say that seven years in, the event continues to show strong support from participants as well as sponsors.
The LGLC put out a survey after the event to get feedback from participants. Of 70 entries received to date, 96% said they were “very satisfied” with the Hike-A-Thon, and 97% said they are “very likely” to participate again. » Continue Reading.

Silver Bay Collects 1,500 Pounds of Electronic Trash
The Silver Bay YMCA Conference and Family Retreat Center announced that they collected over 1,500 lbs of electronic waste at their annual community e-waste recycling event on June 8th in Silver Bay. In a statement to the press, Chief Executive Officer Steve Tamm announced that the event collected the largest amount of electronic waste ever in the event’s eight-year history. » Continue Reading.

LGLC Receives Grant from Lake Champlain Basin Program
The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) has been awarded $4,000 from the Lake Champlain Basin Program’s Local Implementation Grant Program, in cooperation with the New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission.

Athol’s “A Woman’s Place” (1974-1982) Presentation

The Adirondack Almanack is a public forum dedicated to promoting and discussing current events, history, arts, nature and outdoor recreation and other topics of interest to the Adirondacks and its communities
We publish commentary and opinion pieces from voluntary contributors, as well as news updates and event notices from area organizations. Contributors include veteran local writers, historians, naturalists, and outdoor enthusiasts from around the Adirondack region. The information, views and opinions expressed by these various authors are not necessarily those of the Adirondack Almanack or its publisher, the Adirondack Explorer.
