The Adirondack Food System Network is pleased to announce the 6th annual Food Justice Summit. “Stronger Together” is the theme of the full-day conference, and with fifteen organizations now a part of the network, regional collaboration around this topic has never been stronger.

The Adirondack Food System Network is a coalition of multiple organizations working together as equal partners to better understand system-wide issues, identify gaps and develop realistic solutions to help strengthen and promote a more resilient food system. It includes representatives from production, consumption, distribution, processing, and food waste management for a comprehensive approach to problems facing our region.

LivingADK holds annual meeting, presents 2023 Tip of the Cap awards

LivingADK held their annual meeting on the evening of Thursday, October 19 at View, the arts center in Old Forge. Following the meeting, LivingADK staff and board members honored this year’s Tip of the CAP nominees.  Tip of the CAP awards serve as an opportunity for community members to publicly thank an individual, group, business, or organization they feel has made a positive difference within the communities of Forestport, Webb, Old Forge, Eagle Bay, Inlet, Raquette Lake, Long Lake, and Blue Mountain Lake.

LivingADK to host Town of Webb “Meet the Candidate” Night at View, Sept. 13

Old Forge, NY – LivingADK will again be hosting a Town of Webb Meet the Candidate Night on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 7 to 9 p.m.. at View Arts Center located at 3273 State Route 28 in Old Forge, NY. This event is created for the benefit of our electorate and is primarily for the contested seats within the Town of Webb although uncontested candidates are encouraged to participate. This evening is a more formal structure as compared to the Old Forge Library’s Voter Registration Day, Meet & Eat event scheduled for September 19 where the library will encourage residents to mingle and speak with the candidates in a relaxed setting.

Town of Inlet seeks donations for Arrowhead Park playground project

The Town of Inlet Parks Department is excited to have in the works – the Arrowhead Park Playground Project. There is something wonderful about walking into a local park and seeing young children running around a jungle gym, swinging on a swing, or going down a slide. [Children have the opportunity to] exercise, make friends, laugh, and run as their parents and neighbors catch-up over a cup of coffee.

Bagels & Blood Pressure event set for April 13 in Old Forge

Bagels and Blood Pressure event in Old Forge

All are welcome to attend the upcoming Bagels & Blood Pressure event slated for Thursday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps building located at 2964 State Route 28 (and Spring Street). Bagels & Blood Pressure is a new, monthly food and health event sponsored by Old Forge Volunteer Ambulance Corps, The Old Forge Library, LivingADK, Herkimer County Public Health, and Living Independently is For Everyone at Resource Center for Independent Living [LIFE at RCIL.] Representatives from each organization will be on hand to chat about community health initiatives. The event is free and open to all, and no reservations are required.

LivingADK Board of Directors weighs in on proposed Old Forge housing development

The following Letter to the Editor was published in the Adirondack Express newspaper during the week of February 3 – 9, 2023.

“Dear Citizens, Business Owners, and Community Organizations,

The LivingADK Board recently discussed the community concern surrounding the proposed housing development on North Street. LivingADK has consistently played the role of an unbiased facilitator assisting to coordinate resources and investigate possible solutions for the achievement of our mission to help ensure sustainable communities along the Route 28 corridor. Community housing has been a major challenge for many years. Our organization has been a partner in the creation of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan (updated July 2019) and several housing needs assessments, one of which was the West Central Adirondack Housing Needs Assessment (June 2012). These documents and more recent needs assessments clearly identify the shortage of affordable community housing options. Housing is a complicated issue, one that has challenged communities across the Adirondack Park and in resort communities across the country. We understand there is no one miracle solution, instead it will be a mix of solutions.

12th annual CAP-PY Duck Derby is set for Sept. 4 in Old Forge

The ducks are back! CAP-PY Ducks, sponsored by LivingADK/CAP-21, are available once again for their summer adoption. The 12th annual CAP-PY Duck Derby is planned for Labor Day weekend, Sunday, September 4 . LivingADK staff expect over 3,000 rubber ducks to launch themselves from the Old Forge bridge on State Route 28 into the Moose River. As a result of generous local businesses, 18 awesome prizes are up for grabs.

“We are so appreciative of the continued support we receive from our community and visitors which allows us to continue the important work we do,” said LivingADK Executive Director Robin Hill.
