Art gallery roundup: Upcoming Exhibits & Calls for Art

A year into this pandemic, and many small businesses are struggling with how to safely stay in business. Our area artists and galleries are no exception. Fortunately, we have the largest “canvas” in the world available to us – the internet!

Several of our galleries have opted to hold virtual exhibits in addition to in-gallery shows. NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery (https://northwindfineartsgallery.com) is now sharing a space in the back of the former Sears Store (62 Main St., Saranac Lake) with ADK ArtRise (https://www.adkartrise.com) – a school offering art classes.

Call to Artists – NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery Virtual Juried Show

The NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery, located in the heart of Saranac Lake, will be hosting an upcoming juried art show, and is currently seeking artists to submit content under the theme of “The Healing Wilderness,” inspired by the healing power of the Adirondacks.

The village of Saranac Lake is the birthplace of the fresh air cure for tuberculosis, and since the turn of the 20th century the village has been revered for its healing powers.

Selected works will be placed on display in digital form at the NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery during Saranac Lake’s “Winter Carnival”, attended by thousands of people every year. Selected works will also be featured on their website as well, and shared within NorthWind’s extensive social media audience.

Mary Woodcock Johnson Exhibit at NorthWind Fine Arts

Fox by Mary Woodcock Johnson A new exhibit, Mary Woodcock Johnson’s “Seasons,” is running through October 28, 2019 at NorthWind Fine Arts in Saranac Lake.

“Seasons” represents the artist’s return to oil painting while exploring winter, spring, summer and autumn as they unfold in the Adirondacks. The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, seasonal flowers, water lilies, and red foxes are four series represented in the show with a special nod to Adirondack spring. NorthWind Gallery: Musical Translations, Student Work

NorthWind’s artists have created artistic interpretations of some of their favorite songs, and will share them with the public.

Autumns Awakening by Susan WhitemanNorthWind Fine Arts Gallery has announced an opening reception for ‘Adirondack Awakening,’ a new exhibition by Susan Whiteman, has been set for Friday, July 6, from 5 to 7 pm.
