Great Camp Sagamore staff are excited to welcome the community back, in-person, on August 6, 2022 for their Annual Gala & Benefit for Historic Preservation. Join the festivities for an evening of great food, exciting live & silent auctions, and even better company in the heart of Forever Wild.

This year staff are celebrating the many dedicated members of the community – visitors, volunteers, donors, artisans, musicians, and local business owners and residents – who keep Great Camp Sagamore the treasured place it has been for 125 years.

Enjoy more time at camp! Join in from August 5-7, 2022 for Gala weekend programming. Weekend packages will include lodging and meals for Friday & Saturday. Gather with friends and enjoy special activities on Friday night, including music and gourmet s’mores around the campfire, a picnic lunch on Saturday, and many other activities before the Gala & Benefit.

UPDATE: Town of Webb to postpone Community Pride Day until tomorrow, May 5 due to today’s rain forecast

Adirondack area residents are invited to do their part to help clean up their communities in preparation for the summer season during Community Pride Day which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 4. Residents are asked to volunteer their time and take to the streets with gloves and garbage bags in tow to rid their lawns, roadways, and local parks of detritus left over from fall and winter.

The following towns will take part in the event this year: Old Forge, Thendara, Eagle Bay, Big Moose, Inlet, Raquette Lake, Long Lake, Lake Pleasant, Indian Lake, Blue Mountain Lake, Speculator, Arietta, Wells, and Morehouse. Several school districts in the Adirondack region will also participate in the event by taking their students outdoors to lend a hand in the clean up effort.

Winter Wonderland Week 2022: Events slated for Long Lake and Raquette Lake Feb. 18-25

There is a little something for everyone during Winter Wonderland Week in Raquette Lake and Long Lake beginning on Friday, February 18 to Friday, February 25. The festive week kicks off with day one of Raquette Lake’s annual Winter Carnival and an 80’s-themed skate and pizza party in Long Lake on Friday, Feb. 18. Raquette Lake’s Winter Carnival is set for Feb. 18 -20 and will feature an evening concert with the Jamcrackers at the Raquette Lake Chapel, a ladies’ frying pan toss, games for kids, ice golf, a cross-cut and chainsaw competition, a bonfire and fireworks, and much more.

The fun continues all week long with a slew of community-centered activities including skating and sledding races, a cross-country ski tour, a trivia night, tubing at Oak Mountain, an hors d’oeuvres tour in Long Lake, and the return of Long Lake/Raquette Lake Winter Bingo.

The Long Lake Hors D’Oeuvres Tour is set to return on Friday, February 25. The event is sponsored by the Town of Long Lake Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department. Participants will take a free shuttle service to area restaurants to enjoy an evening out in which they will have the opportunity to sample specialty appetizers created specifically for the event and vote for the best appetizer at each location. Participating restaurants are: The Long View Lodge, The Adirondack Hotel, and The Long Lake Diner. Reservations remain open until Monday, February 21. Winter Wonderland Bingo Returns to Long Lake and Raquette Lake

Long Lake announces the second Winter Wonderland Bingo Challenge highlighting activities and outdoor recreation running until March 20th , the official end of winter. The winter themed bingo activity cards will be posted on Long Lake and Raquette Lake social media channels, on the official Town of Long Lake website at mylonglake.com and printed cards will be available at the Long Lake Town Office, Raquette Lake Tap Room, and libraries, post offices and area businesses starting immediately. It is free to participate.

Participants are invited to do as many activities as they can with prizes available depending on how many tasks are completed. Participants completing one row of Winter Wonderland Bingo receive a sticker, and participants completing the entire card will be entered into a grand finale prize drawing which includes merchandise from local vendors in Long Lake and Raquette Lake.

Raquette Lake to hold public meeting regarding lake management plan

2nd and Final Public Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021 to be held via Zoom

RAQUETTE LAKE, NY – The Raquette Lake Preservation Foundation (RLPF) and Northeast Aquatic Research (NEAR) have been working with governmental, NGO, academic and community partners to develop a Lake Management Plan (LMP) for over two years. The study has inventoried the current environmental conditions and aquatic plant life in the lake. NEAR is recommending management priorities for protecting the water quality of the lake, including aquatic invasive species prevention and management; the expansion of research partnerships; and increased public education and awareness of water science.

RLPF would like to encourage anyone interested to come learn more about NEAR’s findings and recommendations from this in-depth process. Please come and join us from the comfort of your home or office as we discuss the Lake Management Plan that is being developed for Raquette Lake to combat Invasive Species. Public input has been critical to the final plan which will be completed in December 2021. Ask questions, and hear about the work completed so far. Let your voice be heard!

Town of Long Lake Receives Grant for Five N.Y.S. Historic Markers

Five New York State Historic Markers were awarded to the Town of Long Lake. They were funded by a grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for the New York State Historic Marker Program.

The five signs were awarded to commemorate four locations in Raquette Lake. Including the Raquette Lake Rail Bed, Raquette Lake Hotel, Raquette Lake Train Station and the Raquette Lake General Store and Supply. The sign in Long Lake will commemorate W.W. Durant’s Buttercup Steamboat which was deliberately sunk in 1885 and recovered in 1959.

In lieu of fireworks, Long Lake, Raquette Lake find new way to celebrate July 4

Many locals and tourists in the Adirondacks look forward to watching bright blues and purples explode in the night sky on a warm summer night, in celebration of Independence Day. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, most fourth of July celebrations are either up in the air or downright cancelled.

The communities of Long Lake and Raquette Lake have decided to go a different route and are hosting a new “Light up the Lakes” event on July 2.

Good Ole Route 28: A trip that used to be a journey

We take roads for granted. I sure did as a kid riding from Syracuse up to my Grandma and Grandpa’s house in Blue Mountain Lake. We drove on Friday nights with my parents and eight brothers and sisters, all stuffed into a station wagon (they were like minivans in 1960s and 70s). My grandfather told us stories about when he was a kid and Route 28 did not exist!

Snowmobiler Injured in Raquette Lake Accident

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Forest Rangers respond to search and rescue incidents in the Adirondacks. Working with other state agencies, local emergency response organizations and volunteer search and rescue groups, Forest Rangers locate and extract lost, injured or distressed people from the Adirondack backcountry.

Raquette Lake Winter Carnival This Presidents’ Weekend

Since 1956 Raquette Lake has been celebrating winter with its hometown charm. High on community involvement, the 64th Raquette Lake Winter Carnival is the place to be for two days filled with winter fun and strangers and neighbors all welcomed into the fold.

Raquette Lake Winter Carnival Next Weekend

The Raquette Lake Winter Carnival is set for Saturday, February 15th, and Sunday, February 16th. It looks as though there will be plenty of snow on the ground and the snowmobiles trails are open.

Activities will begin at 11 am on Saturday with games, including a sack race, sledding, tire obstacle, balloon chase, and tug-of-war. A Ladies Frying Pan Toss will be held at noon, with cash prizes of $75, $50, $25. Long Lake Partners with Marketing Companies

The Town of Long Lake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department recently partnered with two media companies to promote the communities of Long Lake and Raquette Lake. The effort hopes to increase visibility, and user visitation to the Long Lake tourism website and social media outlets.
