New Videos Highlight Life In The Adirondacks

Volunteers for Empire State Winter Games Sought

eswg logoThe 2018 Empire State Winter Games, scheduled for Feb. 1-4, is expected to be the largest multi-sport destination festival in the Northeast. The Empire State Games are expected to draw 2,500 athletes.  New events, such as a torch relay from New York City, and a central village that will host athlete and spectator sports, family activities, an athlete lounge, food, and live music and media coverage are planned.

Adirondack Snowshoe Fest Planned for February

adk snowshoe festOne year after hosting the 2017 World Snowshoe Championships, the village of Saranac Lake is set to host a new snowshoe weekend called the Adirondack Snowshoe Fest, set for February 24 and 25, 2018.

The 2017 WSSF World Snowshoe Championships, which attracted more than 400 competitors from over 15 nations, came close to being canceled due to a winter thaw that melted away many inches of snow leaving only bare ground. The region and community came together the day before, trucking hundreds of loads of snow from outlying areas to the Dewey Mountain Ski Center, which was then hauled up-mountain by sleds and spread upon the race course by scores of volunteers who responded overnight by word-of-mouth and social media. » Continue Reading.

Annual Adirondack Tourism Study Expanded, Results Posted

The latest Leisure Travel Information Study results provide comprehensive traveler demographic insight for the Adirondacks’ Essex, Franklin and Hamilton counties.

For the 13th year in a row, the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) contracted an independent third party to conduct a Leisure Travel Information Study. This year, ROOST again engaged PlaceMaking researchers to conduct the study, which includes a regional return on marketing investment analysis, plus extensive traveler data for Essex, and for the first time, Franklin and Hamilton counties as well. » Continue Reading.

New Tupper Lake Regional Marketing Manager Named

Tupper Lake LogoThe Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has announced the promotion of Katie Stuart to the position of Tupper Lake Regional Marketing Manager.

In her new role, Stuart is expected to serve as a liaison between community stakeholders, travelers, and ROOST, and supports the implementation of marketing strategies for the Tupper Lake area. She was introduced to destination marketing via an internship at ROOST during the summer of 2015, and after graduating from Keuka College in 2017, joined ROOST full time as Tupper Lake/Hamilton County Marketing Assistant. She now fills the role formerly held by Michelle Clement, who was promoted to ROOST Director of Marketing in July. » Continue Reading.

35th Tupper Tinman Triathlon Economic Impact Survey Results

Overhead view of Flanders Park during the 2017 Tupper Lake Tinman competition2017 Tupper Lake Tinman participants contributed $398,927 in direct spending to the region according to a survey sponsored by the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST). The survey was distributed to this year’s race participants via email, in their race packet and on the event website.

One of the longest-running triathlons in the U.S., the race celebrated its 35th year with a field of 594 athlete participants on June 24th. The race is sponsored by the Tupper Lake Chamber of Commerce.

ROOST Hires Lake Placid-Whiteface Marketing Manager

Catherine Ericson The Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism (ROOST) has announced the addition of Catherine Ericson as the Lake Placid and Whiteface Regional Marketing Manager.

Ericson has been on the job a few weeks and is serving as a liaison between community stakeholders, travelers, and ROOST, and supports and coordinates destination marketing strategies for the two regions. Focusing on Inlet’s natural beauty and amenities, the site aims to promote the many leisure experiences available to travelers. Downtown Saranac Lake Seeks Input On Shopping District

The Saranac Lake Downtown Advisory Board is surveying locals, seasonal residents and visitors to provide input on possible improvements or expansions to the downtown retail area.

A brief online survey asks participants to identify potential under-served business markets.
