2020 Winter Carnival Poster Design Announced

Using the Winter Carnival’s designated theme “Myths and Legends,” Trudeau’s illustration shows “Doonesbury” character Zonker as a knight riding a winged unicorn and gazing at a sword.

Trudeau, who was raised in Saranac Lake, has created the Winter Carnival poster design since 2012 to benefit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. » Continue Reading.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Vendors Sought

Applications for vendors participating during the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival are now available online. Applications can also be picked up at the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at 39 Main Street.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival will take place on January 31st – February 9th, 2020 featuring a “Myths and Legends” theme. Saranac Lake Ice Palace Film Premiering At LP Film Fest

Ice Palace A Love LetterDuring the 2016 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, New York City Filmmaker Mark Burns went to Saranac Lake to capture the process from start to finish of what it takes to make the carnival happen. His film, Ice Palace, A Love Letter, is set to have its world premiere at the Lake Placid Film Festival on October 27, 2019 at 6:30 pm.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Parade Saturday

Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club floadThe Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Gala Parade will take place Saturday, February 9, starting at 1 pm. The parade starts at Broadway and Main Street and travels from Ampersand Avenue to Lapan Highway. The parade features many creative floats, quirky performers, community members and more.

Parade performers will be judged in several classes covering businesses, civic or volunteer groups, youth groups, school groups, independent groups and animal units. Trophies will be awarded to the top two entries in each group that most conform to the “Prehistoric Park” theme, as well as the Louis Fobare Trophy for Best of Show. » Continue Reading.

The volunteer activities can be organized or completely self-motivated. They can be as diverse as organizing a major community event or as seemingly minor as shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk. 2018 Winter Carnival Poster Released

2018 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Poster by Garry Trudeau“Doonesbury” cartoonist Garry Trudeau has released his poster design for the 2018 Saranac Lake Winter Carnival. Using the Winter Carnival’s designated theme “Adirondack Festival,” Trudeau’s illustration shows “Doonesbury” character Zonker looking out on an Adirondack mountain vista with fireworks in the sky and the Ice Palace in the distance. Trudeau, who was raised in Saranac Lake, has created the Winter Carnival poster design since 2012 to benefit the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival.

Trudeau signed 100 posters which cost $65 each including tax. There is an additional cost for shipping if local pick-up is not possible. Signed posters are available to purchase starting January 15, contact Jeff Dickson by e-mail at casjdcksn@aol.com or by phone at (518) 891-4344. Those who have purchased signed posters in the past should contact Mr. Dickson to continue the numbered series. Saranac Lake Ice Palace Construction Has Begun

Volunteers Building the 2016 Ice PalaceConstruction of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Ice Palace began Friday, January 27th. Construction involves harvesting ice from Lake Flower, transporting it to the shore and assembling it according to a blueprint. Construction on the palace will continue until the start of the carnival on February 3. The 2017 Winter Carnival will take place February 3rd to the 12th.

The Ice Palace is built by volunteers, organized by a group informally known as the Ice Palace Workers 101 (IPW 101). The public is welcome to volunteer and roles are assigned based on comfort level, skill and ability. » Continue Reading.
