Poaching Case In Schroon Lake

ECOs Nicols Lacroix and K9 Diesel with illegally taken button buckDEC Environmental Conservation Officer (ECO) Maxwell Nocols has reported that on November 21st he received a report of hunters trespassing, firing two shots and killing an antlerless deer on private property in the town of Schroon.

ECO Nicols said he arrived to find numerous footprints entering the woods off Letsonville Road and crossing two separate posted properties. ECO Matt Lacroix with K-9 Diesel were contacted to assist with the investigation. » Continue Reading.

Gore Mountain Community Fund Accepting Grant Applications

community fund for the gore mountain regionThe Community Fund for the Gore Mountain Region (CFGMR) is accepting applications from area schools, municipalities, nonprofit, and community organizations for its 2016 grant cycle.

A component fund of Adirondack Foundation, CFGMR was established in 2005 and offers grants to organizations in the towns of Johnsburg, Chester, Minerva, Horicon and Schroon. Grants will support community beautification, historic preservation, culture and the arts, education, recreation, and programs for youth, seniors, and veterans. » Continue Reading.

Fire Burns 120 Acres At Crane Pond, Bear Mountain

Crane Pond FireDEC Forest Rangers have contained a forest fire started by an unattended campfire on Crane Pond that has spread up Bear Mountain in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness.

The Fire was reported to the DEC Ray Brook Dispatch on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 1:23 pm.  Responding Forest Rangers reported the fire was about two acres on Bear Mountain above Crane Pond.  Dry and windy conditions on Sunday increased the fire to about 80 acres.  » Continue Reading.
