Youth, Teen Musical Workshops Planned In North Creek

2015 rehearsalOur Town Theatre Group (OTTG) has announced they are bringing their summer musical theatre workshops series back for its fifth year.

OTTG’s Youth Musical Theatre Workshop is for children entering grades 1-4. Young, aspiring performers participate in a week-long workshop and learn about acting, singing, dancing, creating costumes, and working together. This workshop takes place the week of Monday, July 31, and concludes with a performance for family and friends on Sunday, August 6.

Also back this year is OTTG’s Teen & Tweens Summer Musical Theatre Workshop for students entering grades 5-8. The Teens & Tweens workshop runs the week of Monday, August 7, and also concludes with a performance for family and friends on Saturday, August 12. » Continue Reading.

Collaboration Yields Dividends At Tannery Pond Center

tannery pondWhat follows is an essay by the Board of Trustees of  the Tannery Pond Center, located on Main Street in North Creek.

Enhanced collaboration between the Town of Johnsburg (TOJ) and the non-profit Tannery Pond Center (TPC) organization has brought this region the wonderful opportunity of having more varied and more frequent entertainment, educational programs, and other events scheduled at the Tannery Pond Community Center (TPCC) for the benefit of the residents of, and visitors to, this region.

In this special partnership between the TOJ and the TPC, the TPC raises money (currently about $65,000 a year) to bring an amazing variety of musicians, lecturers, and other entertainers to the Center and manages the operations; while the TOJ, which owns the facility, maintains the building and funds a part-time employee whose primary charge is scheduling. Over 500 events, meetings and activities were held in the building in 2016, with only a handful of days in which no one occupied any space. » Continue Reading.

Theatre Group Presenting ‘Lend Me A Tenor’ in North Creek

Our Town Theatre Group (OTTG) will present Ken Ludwig’s Tony award-winning comedic farce Lend Me A Tenor, on March 24 and 25th at 7:30 pm and March 26th at 1 pm. All performances are in the Lyle Dye Auditorium at Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek.

Lend Me A Tenor tells of an eventful evening in 1934 at the Cleveland Grand Opera Company. World-renowned special guest singer Tito Merelli arrives to play Otello, but before he can go on he is indisposed through a series of mishaps. With only a few hours to spare, Max, the company’s assistant and general-purpose gopher, steps in to the role. When Tito comes to a crazy night gets even crazier. » Continue Reading.

Tannery Pond Center Gift Establishes Endowment

Adirondack FoundationAn anonymous gift in memory of Bob Foley has created an endowment for the Tannery Pond Center, the nonprofit organization that manages the operations and programming for the town-owned facility known as the Tannery Pond Community Center.

Donna Welch, president of Tannery Pond Center’s Board of Directors, announced that the nonprofit organization received an anonymous memorial gift of $25,000, which will be used to establish an endowed fund at Adirondack Foundation. Foley passed away last year. » Continue Reading.

Theatre Group Announces ‘Our Town’ Auditions

our town theatre groupOur Town Theatre Group has announced auditions for its upcoming fall main stage production of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town. Auditions will be held September 7th and 8th, at 7 pm at the Lyle Dye Auditorium at Tannery Pond Community Center, 228 Main Street in North Creek.

Our Town tells the story of the fictional American small town of Grover’s Corners between 1901 and 1913 through the everyday lives of its citizens. » Continue Reading.

North Creek Musical Theatre Workshops For Young People

OTTG’s Children’s Musical Theatre Workshop is for children entering grades 1-4. Select Works By Stephanie Berube In North Creek

MandelaStephanie Berube is a local artist, living in Thurman who studied art and art history at Hartwick College in Oneonta which happens to be near the Golden acrylic paint factory. Stephanie loves working with acrylic paints and as a student she took advantage of the Golden’s “Seconds Program” which offers paint that does not meet company standards at little or no cost to local artists.

While studying art, she became very excited about the ways in which new acrylics could be applied to her work. In particular Stephanie was fascinated with flow release, a concentrated surface-active liquid that allows her to control how the paint drips down the painting, pulling color along to create a look reminiscent of tie-dye. » Continue Reading.

New Exhibit Set For North Creek’s Tannery Pond

Gore Gondola, pen and ink with watercolor by Evan ChismarkRelief prints and handmade books by Robert Walp and pen and ink drawings by Evan Chismark will be exhibited at Tannery Pond Community Center’s Widlund Gallery in North Creek from January 31 to February 25. A reception to meet the artists will be held on Saturday, January 31, from 4 to 6 pm.

Robert Walp is a letterpress printer, papermaker and print maker from Chestertown, working under the imprint of Chester Creek Press. His work is informed by the natural world around him and by mental images formed from reading ancient Japanese and Chinese poetry. » Continue Reading.

Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society Exhibit

The exhibit includes new work by the group which consists of artists of all abilities from the Adirondacks and surrounding region, working in watercolor, gouache, acrylic, or other forms of watermedia. Johnsburg Historical Exhibit: What’s In Your Attic?

johnsburg-historical-society-logoThe Widlund Gallery at Tannery Pond Community Center (TPCC) in North Creek will present “What’s In Your Attic?”, a Johnsburg Historical Society exhibit of locally collected historic artifacts which will open on Saturday, August 30th, and continue until September 24th. All are invited to attend the reception, Saturday 30 from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by a concert by the Trio Casals.

Now in their 40th year, Johnsburg Historical Society has been fulfilling its mission to preserve, protect and promote the history of the Town of Johnsburg since 1973. A collection of artifacts, photographs, textiles, books and more are housed at the Wevertown Community Center, a two-storey white building (formerly Odd Fellows Meeting Hall) just north of the corner of Route 28 and Route 8 – on Route 8. An Adirondack Perspective On Plein Air In North Creek

PleinAiratNorthCreekThe Widlund Gallery at Tannery Pond Community Center in North Creek is presenting the exhibit Plein Air: An Adirondack Perspective.

The exhibition, which runs until July 30th, features acclaimed regional artists Frances Gaffney (graphite), Diane Leifheit (pastel), Janet Marie Yeates (oil) and Sarah Yeoman (watercolor) and all art work will be available for purchase.

This Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18, artists will paint outdoors in and around the scenic town of North Creek. The public is especially invited to watch them demonstrate their techniques July 17 during Art Walk from 5 to 7 pm. » Continue Reading.
