Chilson Fire Dept Annual Chicken BBQ July 13th

Chilson Volunteer Fire Departments new TA135This year’s Annual Chilson Volunteer Fire Department Chicken Barbecue has been set for Saturday, July 13th from noon until 5 pm at the fire department’s Chilson Community House, 60 Putts Pond Road.

The Chilson BBQ Chicken dinner with all the fixins will be served from 2 to 4 pm, at a cost of $12. There will be entertainment all day by local musicians, and of course raffles for prizes. » Continue Reading.

‘Women Will Vote’ Exhibit Opening in Ticonderoga

womens right to voteThe Ticonderoga Historical Society is set to unveil a traveling exhibit addressing Women’s Suffrage and present a free public program entitled “Women Will Vote” on Friday, May 31 at 7 pm at the Hancock House, 6 Moses Circle, Ticonderoga.

Rogers Rangers Movie Night in Ticonderoga

Northwest Passage Walter Brennan Spencer Tracy Robert YoungThe Ticonderoga Historical Society is set to open its 2019 free movie series with a showing of the classic Spencer Tracy film Northwest Passage on April 26th.

The 1940 early Technicolor film is based on the 1937 best-selling historical novel by the same name, authored by Kenneth Roberts, from a serialized version that had previously run in the Saturday Evening Post.  The film is set along the  New York and New Hampshire frontier during the French and Indian War including at Crown Point, Lake Champlain, and the Connecticut Valley.

Charles Evans Hughes Lecture In Ticonderoga

animated feather dusterLongtime Glens Falls Post-Star reporter Maury Thompson will present a program on local figure Charles Evans Hughes on April 12th in Ticonderoga.

Hughes served as Governor of New York from 1907 until 1910. After serving as governor, Hughes was a U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice. He resigned from the Court in 1916 to accept the Republican nomination for President, losing by a narrow margin to incumbent Democrat Woodrow Wilson. He would go on to serve as U.S. Secretary of State and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

Big Plans For The Hammond Pond Wild Forest

hammond pond wild forest mapThe Adirondack Park Agency (APA) is accepting public comment for a proposed amendment to the Hammond Pond Wild Forest and Port Henry Boat Launch Unit Management Plan.

The plan covers nearly 50,000 acres of Wild Forest designated “forever wild” Adirondack Forest Preserve land and includes a segment of the interstate North Country Scenic Trail and a controversial boat launch on Eagle Lake on Route 74 west of Ticonderoga.

Inez Milholland Subject of Ti Historical’s ‘Big Read’

The Ticonderoga Historical Society has invited readers across the region to a “big read” style project focusing on the life of famed suffragist and Adirondack resident Inez Milholland. The program is part of its ongoing programming related to the anniversary of women’s suffrage.

The book of focus will be Inez: The Life and Times of Inez Milholland, a 2016 biography by Linda J. Lumsden. The book provides insight into the life – and untimely death of Milholland. » Continue Reading.

Rogers’ Rangers, Unique Exhibit, At Ticonderoga

Robert Rogers Fort Ticonderoga has announced a 1758 Battle on Snowshoes reenactment is set for Saturday, March 9, 2019. The event recreates the fight between Robert Rogers’ rangers, and a mixed French force of Native American Warriors, Canadians, and French Army soldiers on March 13, 1758.

Major Robert Rogers force of both volunteers from the 27th foot, and his own rangers headed out on an extended scout from Fort Edward along Lake George, following an attack on a similar patrol from Captain Israel Putnam’s Connecticut rangers. Hiking on snowshoes due to the three feet of snow, the tracks of Roger’s force were spotted on their march up the west side of Lake George. » Continue Reading.

Chilson Fire Department Valentine’s Dinner Dance Set

chilson vfdThe Chilson Volunteer Fire Department is set to hold its 41st annual Valentine’s Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 9th at 5:30 pm at the E.M.A. at 9 Maplewood Lane in Ticonderoga.

Proceeds from the dinner dance help Chilson Volunteer Fire Department outfit its firefighters with the safety gear they need to fight interior fires, and to equip its trucks with the lifesaving tools needed to rescue accident and fire victims. » Continue Reading.

Horse Artifacts Focus of Fort Ti Program Sunday

The first program, presented on January 13, 2019, is  “Half-Spanish, Part-Hungarian, & All-American: Cavalry Treatises, Saddles & Objects in Fort Ticonderoga’s Collection.” Join Vice President of Public History Stuart Lilie to explore the horse artifacts in Fort Ticonderoga’s collections and the unique stories of American saddlery that they tell.
