Free virtual workshop series designed to boost businesses

Point Positive, Inc. and the North Country Innovation Hotspot Program at Clarkson’s Shipley Center will offer a series of free virtual workshops for entrepreneurs on Wednesdays starting Aug. 12.

The virtual workshops will provide new knowledge on specific topics and the skills needed to brand, market, and effectively launch a business. The workshops consist of weekly one-hour sessions focused on social media marketing, websites, and online branding. Each session will begin with a virtual networking component and like-minded entrepreneurs will be able to connect and share new ideas. The workshops will be presented by Nicole Ouellette, founder of Break Even Communications.

NCCC offers free webinars on financial, workplace topics

Saranac Lake’s North Country Community college will be hosting a free webinar workshop series during July. These workshops focus on financial literacy and workplace skills. They are held every Thursday at 7 p.m. via Zoom.  Pre-registration is required.

The first two webinars focused on budgeting your money and negotiating salary and benefits. This coming Thursday will feature Kyle Johnston, the vice president of marketing and enrollment at North Country Community College. His webinar is titled “Telecommuting in our New Virtual World.” Johnston will offer advice on the new norm, trends and what the future holds for telecommuting during Covid-19.

The last webinar on July 30, titled “Credit Reports and Credit Score” is hosted by Jerry Manor, Business Development manager for SeaComm. This webinar will offer tips for restoring bad credit and getting good credit.

Spring Cleaning: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

It is that time of year again where spring cleaning is on the forefront of everyone’s minds. But before you begin, the DEC wants to remind us how important it is that you properly recycle everything instead of just throwing it away.

It is certainly easier to just toss everything, but don’t forget that most everything requires limited natural resources to produce, and in the efforts of conservation, the DEC wants to share some tips to reduce the amount of waste generated this spring-cleaning season.

Green Amendment Webinar Series

Adirondack Mountain Club PhotoIn 2019, New York Legislators passed a proposed amendment to the New York State Constitution, acknowledging that clean air, water, and a healthy environment are a fundamental right. The passage of bill S 2072/A 2064 was the first step in making this Green Amendment into law, and upon a successful passage come 2021, the citizens of New York will have the opportunity to vote on it.
This coming May, Cathy Pedler of the Adirondack Mountain Club, partnered with Environmental Advocates of New York and Green Amendments for The Generations, are hosting a free 3-part webinar series covering the Green Amendment.

Free online composting workshops

New York State’s Organics Summit’s three sessions have transitioned to free online webinars that all are welcome to join. You can click here to learn more about the webinar, as well as to register.

The webinars are as follows:

  • May 4: Bringing Food Scraps Drop-Off Programs To Your Community
  • May 7: Incorporating Food Scraps into your Yard Waste Composting Facility
  • May 19: Managing Wasted Food: Lessons Learned Nationally and New York State’s Plan of Action

After the May 4 and the May 7 seminars, speakers and other attendees will participate in a 30-minute facilitated discussion in order to elaborate on points, answer questions more in depth, and to network and share resources.
