Whallonsburg Grange Purchases 1950s Whitcomb’s Garage

Whitcombs Garage in WhallonsburgThe Whallonsburg Grange Hall, has announce that it has purchased Whitcomb’s Garage in Whallonsburg, the vacant building and land directly across Whallons Bay Road from the Grange.

The 1950s-era garage, on a 1.5-acre lot along the Boquet River, was owned by Clarence “Narni” Whitcomb.   Whitcomb was a lifelong resident of Whallonsburg who sold and serviced cars there until the 1990s; he died in 2017.  » Continue Reading.

Whallonsburg Grange Holding Fall Lyceum Series

grange lyceum seriesThe Whallonsburg Grange Hall is set to host five lectures for its fall Lyceum series on the theme of “Landscapes, Real and Imagined.” The series takes place on Tuesday nights at 7:30 beginning on September 25 and running through October 23.

The series will examine different aspects of the historical and physical landscape, along with some that have been invented or interpreted. Presenters will discuss how what we “see” in the landscape is altered by our individual perspective and what we think we know about these places. ‘Born to Rewild’ Doc Showing At Whallonsburg Grange

born to rewildThe Champlain Valley Film Series will present the documentary film Born To Rewild, on Saturday, February 3 at 7:30 pm at the Whallonsburg Grange Hall, 1610 NYS Route 22 in Essex.

This documentary follows Essex resident John Davis on TrekWest, his 5,000 mile, 8-month journey along the Continental Divide from the deserts of Sonora, Mexico to the snow-covered peaks of British Columbia.

John Davis will be at the screening to introduce the film and answer questions. Davis is also the author of Big, Wild, and Connected: Scouting the Eastern Wildway from Florida to Quebec, about his 7,500 mile journey to follow the potential path of an eastern wildlife corridor.
